Kicking off the new year we are featuring artists Tessa Raven Bayne and her husband Vinton Bayne. This local creative couple has been collaborating on a new series of photographic prints on panels which have been embellished with painting and wood burning. To accompany the new body of work, the dynamic duo also created a zine which includes additional photography, mixed media and writings by the artists.

Join us Thursday January 7th from 6-9pm for the Artist Preview Reception the evening preceding our regularly scheduled 2nd Friday Opening the following night during Live On The Plaza from 7-11pm.

Artist Questions

What is your medium/process? The pieces in this show are a mixture of digital and film photographs taken by Vinton that were printed onto wood. Tessa then altered them using acrylics and wood burning.

The zine is a combination of Vinton's photography, Tessa's mixed media pieces and both of their writings.

Where are you from?
We are both Oklahoma born and raised. Proud to be Plaza District residents.

How would you describe your latest body of work? We have been married for over two years, working on art alongside each other. We decided to pursue the goal of putting our art together as a way to express our unity in life and creativity. We want to tell stories that encourage people to think, question and dream, further exploring stories of their own.

What inspires you?
We inspire each other in our respective mediums. We both look up to creative masters such as Jim Henson, James Jean, Bill Watterson and Farel Dalrymple, as well as the hard working artists in our community. With the zine specifically we were inspired by the weird, thought provoking media we love like the Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, X-Files, Welcome to Night Vale, Ray Bradbury, and HP Lovecraft.

How did you get started?
Tessa grew up in a creative family and community and has been actively showing and making drawings and mixed media paintings for around five years.

Vinton started doing photography and graphic design in high school, loving the way he could alter the world with the lens and combine images with design to create a fuller picture.

What are your goals for the future?
To grow together, create, discover, encourage and inspire.

More specifically we'd love to continue to produce zines, podcasts, paint some murals, make some graphic novels, and construct more big sculptures from cardboard (Like the one Tessa made for DNA Galleries window)

What advice do you have to artists? Go do the thing, be encouraged, be true to yourself, we believe in you.
